Rochester, NY -- A news photographer who graduated from RIT has played a fateful role in reuniting a Greece family with a young man who vanished on New Year's Day.
Associated Press photographer Jacquelyn Martin took many photos Saturday of cold homeless men in Washington, D.C. -- including one of Nicholas Simmons, 20, that was published Sunday in USA TODAY, where it was seen by Simmons' family.
The family was able to get in contact with Martin, who agreed to return to the location to see if Simmons was still there. He was. D.C. police sent him to a hospital to be examined, and he was later reunited with family members.
Martin calls it "an incredible experience" and says it has been affirming for what she does as a photojournailst.
She spoke Monday with WHAM 1180's Bob Lonsberry.
